Head of the Government of Ukraine called on Minister for International Development Cooperation of Sweden Peter Eriksson to support Ukraine within the Strategy of Eastern European countries assistance for 20121-2027, which is being drafted by Sweden: “We expect that the Government of Sweden will foresee Ukraine’s needs in this Strategy. In particular, we are planning to open European Integration Offices in Ukrainian regions and would highly appreciate your support of such an initiative”.
Head of the Government of Ukraine also stated that Ukraine is going to become the biggest recipient of the assistance within this new Strategy, due to its adherence to the European policy and actively implemented reforms.
Oleksiy Honcharuk expressed hopes that Sweden would support special cooperation format for Ukraine and other associated member states as Eastern Partnership countries.
Moreover, Head of the Government of Ukraine brought an issue of ACAA Agreement – so-called “industrial visa-free regime” – one step towards Ukraine’s future, fully integrated with EU political and economic fields.
Ukrainian side discussed other issues as well. Inter alia, Prime Minister of Ukrane expressed his gratitude to Mr.Eriksson for aid provided by Sweden to Ukrainian citizens affected by the Russian aggression. He also underscored the assistance within ”Support for E-Governance Decentralization in Ukraine (EGOV4UKRAINE)”.
Issues of climate change, energy efficiency and energy security in the region, were discussed in the course of the meeting.
Oleksiy Honcharuk stated, “Ukraine is interested in strengthening its cooperation with Sweden in environmental and energy security fields. We highly value assistance of the Government of Sweden in establishing air monitoring and evaluation systems, also in implementing of the EU Directive on assessment of state and private enterprises’ affects on environment, which is an integral part of our Association Agreement with the EU”.
In this context, Mr.Eriksson said, “We have a great experience in waste management and decreasing air pollution. We already closely cooperate with Ukraine in these spheres, but there’s much left for further cooperation”.
Prime Minister of Ukraine welcomed the news of the visit of Prime Minister of Sweden, scheduled to take place this December in Ukraine.
