On 1-3 November 2018, Second Ukrainian Music Festival in Sweden “Rethinking Europe: Ukraine” was held in Stockholm with a great success.
During two evenings in two prominent music halls in Stockholm (Stainway Piano Gallery, Konserthuset) young talents from Ukraine – children from temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation territories of Ukraine – performed their musical pieces. Prominent Swedish and Ukrainian musicians took part in the classical music consert (E.Jonasson, H.Frendin, M.Kotorovych, Pasichnyk sisters), and Swedish orchestra “Rebaroque”.
Within the scope of “ThreeS” project (V.Sylvestrov, M.Skoryk and Y.Stankovych) musical pieces of modern Ukrainian composers were presented to the audience. The premier of M.Skoryk’s musical piece “Variations on the Swedish Theme”, dedicated to Swedish national sagas took place. The audience welcomed famous Ukrainian composer M.Skoryk in a standing applause. The composer celebrated his 80th birthday earlier this year.
Screening of music documentary “Ukrainian rhapsody – a Journey into Ukrainian Classical Music”, directed by Sofia Nyblom and Valentyna Romanyuk, was held during the Festival. The audience had an opportunity to get acquainted with the musical works of Ukrainian composers of the Baroque times – M.Berezovskyi and D.Bortnyanskyi.
