On 14 November 2016, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko paid his first official visit to the Kingdom of Sweden. The agenda included meetings with Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven, Speaker of the Riksdag Urban Ahlin and leader of the Moderate Party Anna Kinberg Batra.
In the course of the meeting with the President of Ukraine, Prime Minister of Sweden S.Löfven recalled that the EU has agreed on a firm response to Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, and its aggression in Eastern Ukraine.
The two leaders also discussed ways to restore peace in Eastern Ukraine and to secure full Ukrainian control of its State border.
The Head of the Government of Sweden welcomed the reforms that have already been introduced in Ukraine and stated that “Over the last two years, Ukraine has achieved more than in the two decades following the country's independence”.
The visit of President of Ukraine P.Poroshenko to the Kingdom of Sweden is integral in intensive political dialogue of two countries. It proved Sweden to be one of Ukraine’s closest allies in country’s path to the EU and in countering continuous Russia’s military aggression.
