September 2-3, 2010 Ambassador of Ukraine in Sweden Yevgen Perebyinis paid a visit to Visby, Gotland invited by Mayor of Visby Eva Nypelius and Governor of Gotland Ms Cecilia Schelin Seidegard.
The city of Visby has long had tight cooperation with the Ukrainian village of Zmiyivka (Kherson region) also known in Sweden as Gammalsvenskby where the population of Swedish origin has still been living. Each year the delegation of Ukrainian children from this village is invited to spend summer in the Visby camp.
This year in the frames of his visit to Visby Ambassador of Ukraine met the Ukrainian children as well as Mayor of Zmiyivka Olexander Ermolenko.
During the meeting perspectives of regional cooperation between both countries were discussed. The Sides exchanged views on cooperation between Ukrainian and Swedish cities included in the framework of International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) and "Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme” UNDP.
