26 powerful backup generators are now being sent as direct support to sixteen children’s hospitals in several Ukrainian regions, where they will help secure the electricity supply that paediatric care there so urgently needs.

Swedish organization Beredskapslyftet, through a previous Christmas fundraising campaign together with Dagens industri, has received donations that have been used to purchase 26 powerful backup generators from Atlas Copco. Within the framework of the Keep Ukraine Warm initiative, these are now being sent as direct support to sixteen children’s hospitals in Ukraine.

Peter Bengtsson, Regional General Manager for Atlas Copco Power Technique Nordic said "We usually say that we make things that make other things work. Knowing that these generators will make things work in children’s hospitals makes me proud and devastated at the same time. For us to be able to contribute by quickly gathering a larger number of machines in such a short time feels good.”

Repeated attacks on Ukraine’s energy system have triggered an acute humanitarian crisis amid the winter cold. In recent months, millions of people have been left without electricity and heating during one of the coldest winters in recent years. Therefore, the Embassy of Ukraine and Swedenergy - Energiföretagen Sverige and Beredskapslyftet are launching the initiative Keep Ukraine Warm. The initiative is supporting the Radiohjälpen fundraising campaign Ge Ukraina Värme.

Ukrainians are going through the toughest winter ever. Children and adults are sleeping in cold, unheated homes. They cannot prepare hot meals. They experience water supply disruption. Hospitals are run on emergency generators. The situation is extremely critical and that is why this generous donation of generators via Beredskapslyftet and other power equipment is so important to keep Ukraine warm” says Svitlana Zalishchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Sweden.

The Keep Ukraine Warm fundraising campaign is aimed at both the public and companies. The goal is to ensure that heating units, generators, backup power systems, and other critical equipment can be rapidly sent to Ukraine to secure heat and help mitigate the humanitarian crisis, not least by providing electricity to vital societal functions.
