June 4th, 2011 the Swedish city of Sigtuna celebrated the Day of Ingegerd-Irina, spouse of the Kyivan Prince Yaroslav the Wise alias St Anna of Novgorod. This year, the oldest city of Sweden and the place of birth of the Swedish Princess Ingegerd hold the celebration under support of Embassies of Ukraine and Russia.
The opening took place on the main square of the city in presence of local government, ambassadors of Ukraine and Sweden, the embassy diplomats, clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church, representatives for cultural circles, tourism companies, mass-media.
During the inauguration performances were made by the children’s artist group «Debut» (Kherson-city, Ukraine), singer and music composer Viktor Nikolishin (Khmelnytska region, Ukraine), male choir «Optina pustyn».
Under the aegis of the Embassy and «Aerosvit Ukrainian Airlines» the opening of the photo exhibition dedicated to 1000th anniversary of St. Sophia’s cathedral was held. Apart from that the exhibition of the Orthodox icon took place. The Ukrainian artist from Ternopil region Alla Neborak presented her works at the exhibition.
In frames of the celebration events the scientific seminar was held where reports were made by the Swedish and Ukrainian historians. Among others, Olexander Bazhenov from the Ivan Ohienko Kamyanets-Podilsky National University made a report on influence and role of Yaroslav the Wise and his spouse Ingegerd on the establishment of Orthodox church.
During the day the market of Ukrainian and Russian handmade souvenirs was held.
The celebration was ended with the Orthodox mass at the ruins of St.Olof church where the Russian male choir «Optina Pustyn» made its performance.
