Ukraine and Sweden are strengthening cultural cooperation.
From 18 to 20 May, Volodymyr Sheiko, Director General of the Ukrainian Institute, paid a working visit to Sweden focused on developing long-term partnerships in the fields of culture and cultural diplomacy.
With the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Sweden and Ambassador Svitlana Zalishchuk, a series of meetings took place in Stockholm with representatives of the Swedish Ministry of Culture, the Swedish Institute, the Swedish Arts Council, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the analytical centres SCEEUS and SITE, as well as cultural institutions, universities, and foundations.
The discussions focused on:
supporting Ukrainian cultural institutions during the war;
developing international cultural cooperation;
joint Ukrainian-Swedish projects;
Ukraine’s integration into European cultural networks;
the long-term presence of Ukrainian culture in Sweden and the Nordic countries.
Particular attention was given to developing cooperation with the Ukrainian Institute in Sweden and expanding the participation of Ukrainian cultural initiatives within the EUNIC network.
‘The Swedish partners’ sustained interest in Ukraine demonstrates a readiness for long-term cooperation – not only in terms of support, but also in jointly shaping the European cultural space.’ – said Volodymyr Sheiko.
These meetings lay the groundwork for lasting international partnerships and for strengthening Ukraine’s presence within the European cultural sphere.
