National fundraising campaign for Ukraine after intense bombing of power grid – Millions without electricity and heat following extensive Russian attacks

“Ukrainians are going through the toughest winter ever. Children and adults are sleeping in cold, unheated homes. They cannot prepare hot meals. They experience water supply disruption. Hospitals are run on emergency generators. The situation is extremely critical and that is why we are appealing for contributions for generators and backup power equipment.” says Svitlana Zalishchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Sweden.
In almost all regionsof Ukraine, the situation is critical. The widespread electricity failures have forced an estimated 600,000 people to leave Kyiv. In Kharkiv, Odesa, and Dnipro, repeated power outages are leaving families in darkness and cold for days in a row. Communities near the front line, including Zaporizhzhia and parts of the Sumy and Donetsk regions, are particularly vulnerable. Many schools and preschools have been forced to close, as their buildings cannot be kept warm enough for children. This is an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe caused by freezing weather.
“Ukraine is freezing. Without electricity and heat, society comes to a standstill, which is why it is only natural for us to support Ukraine in this difficult situation. We will spread the fundraising campaign through our member companies, while the Swedish energy sector continues to provide ongoing support to Ukraine through direct efforts, not least by donating various components to repair and maintain the power grid,” says Åsa Pettersson, CEO of Swedenergy - Energiföretagen Sverige.
Beredskapslyftet is part of the initiative with a business network for Ukraine.
“Sweden has been actively supporting Ukraine. Yet, there is still more we can do. At Beredskapslyftet, we work closely with businesses to mobilize support, ensuring that contributions reach the communities facing the harshest conditions. Together, we can provide generators, heating, and other essential resources that are urgently needed to save lives,” says Fredrik Hillelson, Co-founder of Beredskapslyftet.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Sweden, together with Swedenergy - Energiföretagen Sverige and Beredskapslyftet, is behind the fundraising campaign “Keep Ukraine Warm.” Through this campaign, they have chosen to support Radiohjälpen, which receives donations from those who wish to make a difference in this difficult situation. Radiohjälpen raises funds that are then distributed to vetted partner organizations with operations on the ground in Ukraine.
The Keep Ukraine Warm fundraising campaign is aimed at both the public and companies. The goal is to ensure that heating units, generators, backup power systems, and other critical equipment can be rapidly sent to Ukraine to secure heat and help mitigate the humanitarian crisis, not least by providing electricity to vital societal functions.
