On April 9, Ambassador of Ukraine to Sweden Andrii Plakhotniuk took part in the joint online meeting with the Chair of the Committee on Defence of the Riksdag of Sweden Pål Jonson and Deputy Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Riksdag of Sweden Hans Wallmark.
The representatives of the Swedish parliament were informed in detail on Russia’s military build-up along the state border with Ukraine, in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, and in the waters of the Black Sea as well as on the escalation of the security situation in the area of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict in Donbas.
The attention of the Swedish side was drawn to the ongoing gross violations by the Russian armed formations of the ceasefire regime agreed in July 2020.
The Members of the Swedish parliament were also briefed on the consultations within the framework of the Normandy Format and the Trilateral Contact Group. In this context, Ukraine's commitment to political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict has been reaffirmed.
The Ukrainian side commended the activities of the Swedish Chairpersonship in the OSCE, inter alia its persistent efforts to ensure the effective operation of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
The Ambassador of Ukraine expressed gratitude to the Members of the Riksdag of Sweden for the firm support of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine by all the political parties, represented in the Swedish parliament as well as for the significant practical assistance of the Swedish side to our country in the implementation of domestic reforms agenda.
The participants of the meeting agreed to continue cooperation on topical issues of bilateral relations and the European agenda.
