On 25 June 2026, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Sweden Svitlana Zalishchuk participated in the panel discussion “Ukraine defends the free world now – Will the world be there for Ukraine long term?”, held during Almedalsveckan in Visby.
The discussion brought together Ambassador of Canada to Sweden Robert Sinclair, Ambassador of Ukraine to Sweden Svitlana Zalishchuk, British Ambassador to Sweden Samantha Job, Ambassador of France to Sweden Thierry Carlier, and Ambassador of Germany to Sweden Ludger Siemes. The panel was moderated by Jakob Hallgren, Director of the Swedish Institute of International Affairs.
The participants discussed long-term support for Ukraine, the responsibility of the international community in Ukraine’s reconstruction, and Ukraine’s contribution to strengthening Europe’s security, democratic resilience and crisis preparedness.
In her remarks, Ambassador Svitlana Zalishchuk stressed that supporting Ukraine today is an investment in the security of the whole of Europe and in the defence of the rules-based international order. She underlined that Ukraine’s reconstruction is not only about rebuilding infrastructure, but also about supporting people, communities, democratic institutions and national resilience amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.
The ambassadors reaffirmed their shared commitment to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.
The event took place at Ukrainska Hubben and focused on how Ukraine and its international partners can work together to build Europe’s future security, resilience and recovery.
