On 20 June, seminar “The Constitutional Legacy of Pylyp Orlyk” was held in Kristianstad.
The event was held under the auspices of the Kristianstad Municipal Council in the light of the 300-year anniversary of Ukrainian Hetman Pylyp Orlyk’s stay in Sweden.
Chair of Kristianstad Municipal Council Bo Silverbern and Ambassador of Ukraine to Sweden Ihor Sagach addressed the audience. Ukrainian and Swedish researches took part in the discussions.Special attention was payed to Ukrainian-Swedish relations during ХVII-XVIII centuries, political dialogue of those times and activities of the Exile Government chaired by Hetman Pylyp Orlyk in 1719-1720.
The symbolism of the seminar, held before the celebration of the 23rd anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine, was highlighted in the historical comparisons of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk with the Constitution of Ukraine of 1996 – cornerstone legal documents of the Ukrainian Statehood, foundations of the Ukrainian legal system, its democratic grounds of the past and modern times.
The guests and participants of the seminar visited places, where Ukrainian Hetman Pylyp Orlyk lived in his family in Kristianstad during 1716-1719 and paid tribute to the Ukrainian leader.
